"The April rain, the April rain,
Comes slanting down in fitful showers,
Then from the furrow shoots the grain,
And banks are fledged with nestling flowers;
And in grey shawl and woodland bowers
The cuckoo through the April rain
Calls once again."

Why we pronounce differently TO and GO?

Anybody could tell me why we do not pronounce words TO and Go similarly? Why pronounce differently?

    English pronunciation doesn't follow strict rules. Why? Well, English is a mixture of several different languages, and the pronunciation often depends on the etymology of the word. It is best to just accept that they are pronounced that way. If you want to study linguistics, then do some research into the origins of the words, but don't expect to be able to make any real sense of the results.
