By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer.

Helen Hunt Jackson - September
The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush,
New books, erasers,
Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive,
Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts
Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
A morning haze.

John Updike, September

He is quite popular here in India also as his song shape of you remain in top charts for many weeks. So yes his popularity is not just limited to UK.

He is popular also in Itay. In the Italian charts there are three of his songs : " shape of you", " how would you feel" and "castle on the hill". I like his music I think it is very nice.
