By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer.

Helen Hunt Jackson - September
The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush,
New books, erasers,
Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive,
Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts
Chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
A morning haze.

John Updike, September

I often moan about the weather, but we are pretty lucky here.

Imagine this:-

Oh dear, even a solid built house wouldnˋt get a chance to keep the ice out.

Oh dear. I hope no one was hurt. Does household insurance cover for things like this @Lynne, @Hermine?
  • LynneLynne Your Teacher HomePosts: 9,476 mod
@mheredge - I guess it depends on the insurance company. In Germany you have to have special "severe weather" insurance.

It's terrible. Nature is unpredictable. How could they imagine their house would be destroyed in that way when they built it?

I donˋt think that our contract covers up this kind of case. In the contract everything must be named.

I ought to check to see the apartment's building insurance as I have a very large palm tree close to my bedroom window that would make an awful mess if it came down!

Here is some footage of storm Doris. She hit the UK last week, and was given the dubious title of a weather bomb.

How would you describe what happens around 0:23 in the video?

It seems that Angela Merkel made it to the White House just now after all, despite the cancellation a couple of days ago due to bad weather.
