"The April rain, the April rain,
Comes slanting down in fitful showers,
Then from the furrow shoots the grain,
And banks are fledged with nestling flowers;
And in grey shawl and woodland bowers
The cuckoo through the April rain
Calls once again."

What do you want to do in 2017?
What do you want to accomplish?
Is there anything you want to get? Is there anywhere you want to go?
Is there anything about yourself that you want to change?
Is there any habits that you want to replace in 2017?

Post one or two that you can share with the members on the forum.
You can write either vague ones or specific ones.

Whatever it's gong to be, I wish you all the best outcome!

    What I want to do or accomplish in 2017

    (2) Eat healthy and do the stretch regularly.
    (3) Help people from foreign countries explore Tokyo

    My plan:
    Improve my English and Norwegian (it is a necessity)
    Continue studying Japanese (this is one of my hobbies)
    Try to make at least one important and useful thing in 2017 and I will think proudly about it at the end of the year :)

    @OksNik
    You're amazing. So, you're learning three different languages at the same time? Wonderful!
    I'm from Tokyo, Japan. Feel free to ask me about Japanese if you have any questions. ( Although I can't give grammatical explanations..)

    Good luck!!

    Good luck with your plans too !

    What diverse languages @OksNik. Hopefully you won't get them mixed up!
  • OksNikOksNik Posts: 95 ✭✭
    I try it, @mheredge :)
    Russian - native;
    Norwegian - I live in Norway and constantly improve Norwegian language;
    English - it is as "Esperanto". I think people should have "universal language" in addition to native language. Today English really helps to communicate around the world, especially if traveling outside the country quite often.
    Japanese - it's hobby

    Oops, it was not a question from you, @mheredge . It was just a note about different languages. I've reacted to the "What" :) Sorry, my mistake.

    What are your "New 2017 Year" plans, @mheredge ?
  • mheredgemheredge Wordsmith Here and therePosts: 24,942 mod
    You read my mind @OksNik only I didn't want to be too nosy and ask you where you are from! I think often Russians are great linguists. I met a very nice Russian family today but only the son could speak English. somehow though, we were able to communicate well. Maybe his parents could understand a little as I was making an extra effort to speak slowly and clearly.

    @OksNik @mheredge

    I'm adding one more thing to my list.

    (4) Have friendly open-minded conversations with my clients as much as possible. Maintain good realtions so that I can be there for them when they need.

    For making (4) come true, I'm adding a little change to my mornign rituals. Usually, I used to try to browse around the site and leave comments around 8:00~9:00 in the morning. I'm using this time of the morning to try to send replies to my inbox. I want to to finish it before 9:00 to start calling my clients. Let's see how it goes.

    By the way, I've been taking breakfast before work these days. It's one change that I've been making to my eating habits. See if I can keep it for at least a month.

    It is very good an extra point in your list.
    I think it is necessary to improve something in our life.
    And it's important that we do not want to be better than others, but better than we were before :)

    I hope you find breakfast is giving you renewed energy for your morning tasks @takafromtokyo.

    I am hopeless about getting into any sort of routine and end up taking each day as it comes.

    Take each day as it comes - words of wisdom.

    I'm going to add this one to my list of goals for the year 2017.

    (5) Let go of worries and take action!

    Reminding myself of my goals for the year 2017.

    So far, so good. I think I'm moving in the right direction.
    I need to make it a ritual to do the stretch, otherwise I easily forget doing it. I haven't gotten my hands on (3): Help people from foreign countries explore Tokyo, but I think I can get started with it by asking the chat hosts if they want to hang out with me in their spare time. Let go of my worries and just ask them!

    Thanks for sharing your wishes!
    To get rid of your current habits and replace them with new ones could be tough thing. You're doing what you usually do because they are fun and comfortable!! But you're going to take on the task. I know it's not going to be easy, but in this thread, you're not alone. We're all going to move forward together here!

    I wish you the best of luck!!

    I'm terrible at setting goals and at the moment the only plan I have is to return to Kathmandu in September for a couple of months! I suppose my goal should be to be a lot more organised in what I will do this year, but I'm useless at keeping resolutions. It's back to taking each day as it comes @takafromtokyo.
  • takafromtokyotakafromtokyo Posts: 2,057 ✭✭✭✭
    @mheredge
    I think you don't have to set a certain goal like the goals people would usually imagine. Maybe you could say your goal is to simply enjoy life to the full, or to simply experience and appreciate life!

    Taking each day as it comes I think is a good goal already!!

    Hi Everyone,

    My name is Walkiria and I am a new member.

    What do you want to do in 2017?

    I would like to improve my English writing and pronunciation.

    What do you want to accomplish?

    I would like to accomplish so many things such as speaking with people in a way they will be able to understand what I am trying to tell them.

    Is there anything you want to get? Is there anywhere you want to go?

    My goal is to be a motivational speaker. But when I start speaking in front of people everything goes blank.

    Is there anything about yourself that you want to change?

    I don't want to change anything but to improve.

    Is there any habits that you want to replace in 2017?

    Yes, how I am pronouncing some words.

    @wacky1985

    I see you want to improve your speaking and pronunciation in English.
    That's a great goal! One way to use LEN to help you achieve that goal is to get the second star and join the Skype sessions. If you just keep adding comments in any of the discussion threads in the forum, I'm sure you'll get it in a short period of time.

    Good luck with your dreams of 2017
