"Still lie the sheltering snows, undimmed and white;
And reigns the winter's pregnant silence still;
No sign of spring, save that the catkins fill,
And willow stems grow daily red and bright.
These are days when ancients held a rite
Of expiation for the old year's ill,
And prayer to purify the new year's will."

I'll with start with scene from Phone Booth - The Confession

    ----------------------------

I've never done anything for anybody...

...who couldn't do something for me.
    I string along...

    ...a kid with promises
    that I'll pay him money.

I keep him around because he
    looks up to me.

Adam, if you're watching, don't be
a publicist. You're too good for it.

I lie in person and on the phone.
    I lie to my friends.

I lie to newspapers and magazines who
sell my lies to more and more people.

I'm just a part of a big cycle of lies.
    I should be ** president.

I wear all this Italian shit because
underneath, I still feel like the Bronx.

I think I need these clothes,
    and this watch.

My $2000 watch is a fake,
    and so am I.

    I neglected the things
    I should have valued most.

    I valued this shit.

I take off my wedding ring to call Pam.
    Kelly, that's Pam.

    Don't blame her.

I never told her if I was married,
    and if I did...

...she would've told me to go home.

    Kelly, looking at you now,
    I'm ashamed of myself.

I mean, I work so hard on this image,
    on Stu Shepard, the as**...

...who refers to himself in third person,
that I only proved I should be alone.

I've been dressing up as something
    I'm not for so long...

    ...I'm so afraid you won't like what's
    underneath.

    But here I am.
I'm just flesh and blood and weakness.

I love you so ** much.

    [STU SOBBING]

I take off this ring because it only
reminds me of how I've failed you.

And, I don't wanna give you up.

    I wanna make things better,
but it may not be my choice any more.

    You deserve better.

You know, I think you probably should mention why you like that scene.

Everyone has their own struggle in life no matter what you look like, who you are, how old you are....

POWLEY: (As Minnie) I feel so awkward and ugly and naive and lonely.

SUSANNAH SCHULMAN: (As Aline) I know how you feel.

POWLEY: (As Minnie) I have no friends. I don't want to go to school ever again. Nobody loves me. Maybe I should kill myself.

SCHULMAN: (As Aline) No, alienation is good for your art.

POWLEY: (As Minnie) Maybe I should paint a picture.

    SCHULMAN: (As Aline) Yeah.

POWLEY: (As Minnie) I should paint a picture.

SCHULMAN: (As Aline) It doesn't matter what kind of art you do. Just - you just have to do it.

POWLEY: (As Minnie) I want to discipline myself to draw every day. That's what I have to do, right? I get distracted sometimes, overwhelmed by my all-consuming thoughts about sex and men. I always want to be touched. I don't know what's wrong with me.

SCHULMAN: (As Aline) I don't know either. Maybe you're a nympho (laughter) with your head. Everybody wants to be touched.

@Shiny03 Done, your suggestion was added. Tell us why do you like this scene? :D

As movie freak, I like so many scenes. For now, i would say park scene from Good will Hunting. Because, this scene perfectly describes the difference between intelligence and wisdom.
  • Shiny03Shiny03 Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭✭

Will: So what's this? A Taster's Choice moment between guys? This is really nice. You got a thing for swans? Is this like a fetish? It's something, like, maybe we need to devote some time to?

Sean: I thought about what you said to me the other day, about my painting. Stayed up half the night thinking about it. Something occurred to me and I fell into a deep, peaceful sleep and haven't thought about you since. You know what occurred to me?

    Will: No.
Sean: You're just a kid. You don't have the faintest idea what you're talking about.

    Will: Why, thank you.

Sean: It's all right. You've never been out of Boston.

    Will: Nope.

Sean: So if I asked you about art you’d probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written...Michelangelo? (beat) You know a lot about him. Life's work, political aspirations, him and the pope, sexual orientation, the whole works, right?

But I bet you can't tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You've never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling.

Seen that.....If I asked you about women you'd probably give me a syllabus of your personal favorites. You may have even been laid a few times.

But you can't tell me what it feels like to wake up next to a woman and feel truly happy.

You're a tough kid. I ask you about war, and you'd probably--uh--throw Shakespeare at me, right? "Once more into the breach, dear friends."

But you've never been near one. You've never held your best friend's head in your lap and watched him gasp his last breath, looking to you for help.

And if I asked you about love y'probably quote me a sonnet. But you've never looked at a woman and been totally vulnerable. Known someone could level you with her eyes. Feeling like! God put an angel on earth just for you...who could rescue you from the depths of hell. And you wouldn't know what it’s like to be her angel and to have that love for her to be there forever. Through anything. Through cancer. You wouldn't know about sleeping sitting up in a hospital room for two months holding her hand because the doctors could see in your eyes that the term visiting hours don't apply to you.

You don't know about real loss, because that only occurs when you love something more than you love yourself. I doubt you've ever dared to love anybody that much.

I look at you; I don't see an intelligent, confident man; I see a cocky, scared shitless kid.

But you're a genius, Will. No one denies that. No one could possibly understand the depths of you. But you presume to know everything about me because you saw a painting of mine and you ripped my @!~* life apart.

You're an orphan right? (Will nods) Do you think I'd know the first thing about how hard ! your life has been, how you feel, who you are because I read Oliver Twist? Does that encapsulate you?

Personally, I don't give a shit about all that, because you know what? I can't learn anything from you I can't read in some @!~* book. Unless you wanna talk about you, who you are. And I'm fascinated. I'm in.

But you don't wanna do that, do you, sport? You're terrified of what you might say. Your move, chief.

Can you love someone so sincerely and unconditionally?

    Landon: I might kiss you.
Jamie: I might be bad at it.
    Landon: That's not possible.

    Landon: Jamie...I love you
    [long pause]
Landon: Now would be the time to say something.
Jamie: I told you not to fall in love with me.

My favourite scene is from the film "The Railway Children" when Bobbie is reunited with her father. I don't know if anyone here has seen that film, but I can promise you that it is wonderful.

The next scene I have here from my favorite movie "Inception"
    explaining the dream world

I would not be standing here
if I knew any other way.

    I need an architect
who's as good as I was

    I've got somebody better.

    Ariadne?
I'd like you to meet Mr. Cobb.

    Pleased to meet you.

If you have a few moments, Mr. Cobb has a
job offer he'd like to discuss with you.

    A work placement?

    Not exactly

I have a test for you.

    You're not gonna tell
    me anything first?

Before I describe the job, I
have to know you can do it

    - why?
    - It's not, strictly speaking, legal.

You have two minutes to design a maze
that it takes one minute to solve.

    You're gonna have to
    do better than that.

    That's more like it.

They say we only use a fraction
    of our brain's true potential.

    Now, that's when we're awake.

    When we're asleep, our mind
    can do almost anything.

    Such as?

    Imagine you're designing a building
    You consciously create each aspect.

But sometimes, it feels like it's almost
creating itself, if you know what I mean.

    Yeah, like I'm discovering it.

    Genuine inspiration, right?

Now, in a dream, our mind
    continuously does this.

    We create and perceive
    our world simultaneously.

And our mind does this so well that
we don't even know it's happening.

That allows us to get right
in the middle of that process.

    How?
By taking over the creating part.

Now, this is where I need you.

    You create the
    world of the dream.

We bring the subject into that dream, and
they fill it with their subconscious.

How could I ever acquire enough detail
to make them think that it's reality?

    Well, dreams, they feel real
    while we're in them, right?

It's only when we wake up that we
    realize something was actually strange.

Let me ask you a question.

    You never really remember the
beginning of a dream, do you?

You always wind up right in
the middle of what's going on

    I guess, yeah.

So how did we end up here?

Well, we just came from the, uh.

    Think about it, Ariadne.
    How did you get here?

    Where are you right now?
    We're dreaming?

    You're in the middle of
    the workshop, sleeping.

This is your first lesson in
    shared dreaming. Stay calm

    If it's just a dream,
    then why are you-?

    Because it's never
    just a dream, is it?

And a face full of glass hurts like
hell When you're in it, it feels real.

    That's why the military
    developed dream sharing.

It was a training program for soldiers
to shoot, stab and strangle each other.

    And then wake up.

    ARIADNE: How did architects
    become involved?

    Well, someone had to
    design the dreams, right?

    Why don't you give us
    another five minutes?

    Five minutes?

    What? We were talking for,
    like, at least an hour.

    In a dream, your mind
    functions more quickly.

    Therefore time seems
    to feel more slow.

Five minutes in the real world
gives you an hour in the dream.

Why don't you see what you can
get up to in five minutes?

This is one of my favourite scene from "Pride and Prejudice" (2005). Here Darcy realises that Elizabeth has heard what he said ealier about her. I couldn't find the video, so just a transcript.

Mr. Bingley: Your friend Miss Lucas is a most amusing young woman.
Elizabeth: Oh, yes, I adore her.
Mrs Bennet: It is a pity she's not more handsome.
    Elizabeth: Mama!
Oh, but Lizzy would never admit that she's plain. Of coure, it's my Jane who's considered the beauty of the county.
    Elizabeth: Mama, please!
Mrs Bennet: When she was only 15, a gentleman was so much in love with her, that I was sure he would make her an offer. However, he did write her some very pretty verses.
Elizabeth: And that put paid to it. I wonder who first discovered the power of poetry in driving away love.
Darcy: I thought poetry was the food of love.
Elizabeth: Of a fine, stout love it may. But if it is only a vague inclination, one poor sonnet will kill it.
Darcy: So, what do you recommend to encourage affection?
Elizabeth: Dancing. Even if one's partner is barely tolerable.

This scene isn't in the novel but I like the confrontation and Elizabeth's grin :)

    And another funny scene:

And of course scene of first proposal:

Ok, I admit, it's my favourite movie and I like many, many scenes. Sorry, I'm just a girl :D

Poor Salieri. Mozart does't mean any harm.

My another favourite scene is from "Anna Karenina" movie (2012). It's a dance scena at Kitty's ball, when Anna and Wronski fall in love and seeing nothing but themselfs. And this waltz is so bewitching and beautiful for me.
  • Shiny03Shiny03 Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭✭
Because Salieri acknowledges his mediocrity, he can't bear it. @Yellowtail (But I think it's against the historical truth.)
I like this movie so much. I remember that I was crazy about it when I was at a college.

  • YellowtailYellowtail Posts: 443 ✭✭✭
@Shiny03 The most tragic part for Salieri is that he can't help loving Mozart's music, more profoundly than anyone else, even though he totally hates Morzart's personality. And I agree that's not based on the historical truth.

It's been a while, but it's still a classic.

These lines are not in this video, but I post it to let you understand it more.
(Sally: So what do you do with these women, you just get up out of bed and leave?
    Harry: Sure.
Sally: Well explain to me how you do it. What do you say?
Harry: You'd say you have an early meeting, early haircut or a squash game.
    Sally: You don't play squash.
Harry: They don't know that they just met me.
    Sally: That's disgusting.
Harry: I know, I feel terrible.
Sally: You know I'm so glad I never got involved with you. I just would've ended up being some woman you had to get up out of bed and leave at three o'clock in the morning and clean your andirons, and you don't even have a fireplace. Not that I would noticed.
Harry: Why are you getting so upset? This is not about you.
Sally: Yes it is. You are a human affront to all women and I am a woman.
Harry: Hey I don't feel great about this but I don't hear anyone complaining.
Sally: Of course not you're out of the door too fast.
Harry: I think they have an OK time.
    Sally: How do you know?
Harry: What do you mean how do I know? I know.
    Sally: Because they...
    Harry: Yes, because they...
Sally: And how do you know that they really...
Harry: What are you saying, that they fake orgasm?
    Sally: It's possible.
    Harry: Get outta here!
Sally: Why? Most women at one time or another have faked it.
Harry: Well they haven't faked it with me.
    Sally: How do you know?
    Harry: Because I know.
Sally: Oh, right, that's right, I forgot, you're a man.)

Harry: What is that supposed to mean?
Sally: Nothing. It's just that all men are sure it never happened to them and that most women at one time or another have done it so you do the math.
Harry: You don't think that I could tell the difference?
    Sally: No.
    Harry: Get outta here.
    Sally: Ooo...Oh...Ooo...
    Harry: Are you OK?
    Sally: Oh...Oh god...Ooo Oh God...Oh...Oh...Oh...Oh God...
Oh yeah right there Oh! Oh...Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes...Oh...Oh...
Yes Yes Yes....Oh...Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes...Oh...Oh... Oh...
    Oh God Oh... Oh... Huh...

Lady from another table: I'll have what she's having.

Still one of the best endings in a film:-

“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”

    .....

    You've done a man's job, sir. I guess you're through huh?

    Finished.

It's too bad she won't live, but then again, who does?

My facorite scene for today from Person of Interest - 5x10 'The Day The World Went Away'

I have played by the rules for so long.

    Not from where I'm sitting.

    No. Not your rules.

You work at the behest of a system

so broken that you didn't even notice

when it became corrupted at its core.

When I first broke your rules,

    a sitting president had authorized

    assassination squads in Laos,

and the head of the FBI
    had ordered his men...

    you... to conduct illegal surveillance

    on his political rivals.

Your rules have changed every time

    it was convenient for you.

I was talking about my rules.

I have lived by those rules for so long.

Believed in them for so long.

    Believed that if you played
    by the right rules,

    eventually you would win.

    But I was wrong, wasn't I?

    And now all the people
    I cared about are dead.

Or will be dead soon enough.

And we will be gone without a trace.

So now I have to decide.

Decide whether to let my friends die,

    to let hope die,

to let the world be ground
    under your heel

all because I played by my rules.

    I'm trying to decide.

    I'm going to kill you.

    But I need to decide
how far I'm willing to go...

how many of my own rules
    I'm willing to break

    to get it done.

    Look, you want to add
    threatening the life

of a federal agent to your file,

I will draw up those charges right now.

    No waiting is required.

    I wasn't talking to you.

    They said they're calling Washington.

    Meanwhile, anyone remands
    this guy to anyone...

    ROOT:Can you hear me?

    Root?

    No, Harold.

    I chose a voice

    This place...

can you get me out of it?

    ROOT: You created me.

I can do anything you want me to.
