By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer.

Helen Hunt Jackson - September
The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush,
New books, erasers,
Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive,
Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts
Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
A morning haze.

John Updike, September

Governments should pay a no-strings-attached cheque to each citizen

What do you think of this? Instead of worrying about managing myriad social welfare and unemployment payment schemes, the government should just give everyone money. No conditions. No questions. Everyone, rich or poor, employed or out of work would get the same amount of money. This would provide a path toward a new way of living: If people no longer had to worry about making ends meet, they could pursue the lives they want to live.

After all, what do you really want to do with your life? Are you doing what you really want to do? Whatever the answers, Staub suggests basic income is the means to achieve those goals.

It's quite a long article, but very interesting. Worth a read and what do you think? Do you think it would work?

There are many 'youth employment schemes' here in Punjab. But, I don't see them very effective. Mostly, based on loans with a lot of interest on it.

I'm not sure, but if everyone was paid a living allowance, would more people would just not bother working?

@mheredge you have shared a nice article. @mheredge I think the same way if government provide unemployment allowance then people would not bother to do any kind of job specially they would be very reluctant to do low paid job. They would think what Is the difference if we receive unemployment allowance or doing low paid job. Consequently they would like to remain jobless.

It sounds like communism for me. History has taught us it would fail. I think Instead of puesuing goals, most people would just being lazy and doing nothing at all with basic income.

@shah51272 this problem already exists, especially for low paid women workers who have to pay so much for childcare when they work, it's hard to make enough to cover these costs.
