And some rural areas used to have roosters with them as their alarm clocks rather than using their phones. :)

@abhishekb9099 this morning I needed more than one alarm, which is not like me at all, but I did have a very busy weekend so I was tired.

  • GemmaRowlandsGemmaRowlands Moderator Posts: 6,117 mod
Yes @abhishekb9099 I spent the weekend with my family and friends. @kindgnice I do have a busy schedule for this week. I'm getting a lot more work from my clients who I edit for recently which is good news for me, but means more time spent on my laptop!

I wish that I could live without a mobile phone @Shiny03 as I feel that life would be a lot less hectic, but unfortunately my job role means I can't get rid of mine.

I'm currently using my phone to respond to hundreds of notifications I'm receiving. ;)
  • GemmaRowlandsGemmaRowlands Moderator Posts: 6,117 mod
@kindgnice I have switched off most notifications from apps and websites, as it was getting to the stage where my battery was being drained just from the notifications alone!

That sounds like a good thing to use your mobile phone @Bubbly and I am sure that it helps a lot with your studying!
  • BubblyBubbly Nightingale Posts: 30,151 ✭✭✭✭✭✭
@GemmaRowlands yes and now whatsapp has also provided us an opportunity to record and discuss study material. Instead of reading books, I prefer to listen to recorded sessions.

I use WhatsApp a lot - I think it's a fantastic app to stay in touch with groups of people and plan events and things like that.

I usually find I wake up and can switch off just before the alarm goes off @abhishekb9099. It still has the function of waking me up but it doesn’t have to wake everyone else.
  • GemmaRowlandsGemmaRowlands Moderator Posts: 6,117 mod
I can often wake up without an alarm too @mheredge but I will always make sure that I keep my mobile phone alarm on as a back up just in case I don't wake up in time.

@mheredge Here i would like to share one incident it happened with my brother. My alarm starts from 4 AM my mobile was in brothers room so it started at 4 AM my brother dismissed 1st Alarm but at 4 30 again it started my brother dismiss it again after 30 mins again it started so finally my brother switched off my cellphone but after 30 mins it started again so finally he remove battery from the phone... And he scold me a lot when he woke up..... How many Alarms you put in your cellphone and what type of cellphone you have Alarm starts even when phone is off??
  • mheredgemheredge Teacher Here and therePosts: 29,195 mod
Your brother didn't think to wake you up? I'm not sure if my alarm would go off if the phone is switched off. I don't think that I've ever set more than two alarms to wake me up @abhishekb9099 but I sometimes also set one to let me know that I should be leaving the house.
  • abhishekb9099abhishekb9099 Posts: 1,030 ✭✭✭✭
@mheredge I was in another room and nobody wants to come out of the bed
I use to set more than 5 Alarms though I wake up from 1st one still..I don't know why because I just enjoy my Alarm tone I guess
  • GemmaRowlandsGemmaRowlands Moderator Posts: 6,117 mod
Wow I think your brother should have woken you @abhishekb9099 I would have been annoyed if that was me. I only ever have to set one alarm.
  • mheredgemheredge Teacher Here and therePosts: 29,195 mod
My alarm rang three times this morning, but I was awake and up before the first one @abhishekb9099 and like you, couldn't be bothered to switch it off. Today I used my tablet's Google Maps to check how much further it was to get to the town I was going to, then to find my way to the hostel. Again, thanks to Google Maps I was able to jump off the bus much closer to where I wanted to go rather than stay on till the end of the way.
  • abhishekb9099abhishekb9099 Posts: 1,030 ✭✭✭✭
@GemmaRowlands Lol even my brother get annoyed because of me..
And in the early morning he took my class..
Abhishek what is this... I guess one Alarm is enough and you have more than 5 .. Either remove remaining Alarms or keep your phone with you only....
 I use to hide from him when he gets irritated because of me...
But still I love him a lot I feel glad whenever I talk about him with my friends and others

@mheredge It happened with me lot of times I wake up before my alarm rings.
By the way Google Maps are really good they are almost accurate in terms of distance.
And also it gives estimate travel time according to different time.
Like in Pick hours it will take more time to travel and in non-pick hours it will take less time...
  • mheredgemheredge Teacher Here and therePosts: 29,195 mod
There was a bit of a time lag with it a couple of days ago and I ended up going round the block because it wasn't showing exactly how far I'd got @abhishekb9099. But one thing I really like is how it knows which hostel I'm booked into and when I call up the next town I'm heading to, it even shows where I'm aiming for there. Then I can easily set it to show me how to get there from the bus or train station. It's a real boon to travelling like I do.
